Christmas donations as a sign of climate and species protection, social participation and prevention

The year 2024 is coming to an end. Once again this year, it is important to us to make contributions where help is urgently needed. In keeping with tradition, Uniserv is therefore once again supporting projects for social participation, climate and species protection and prevention and donating to various institutions regionally and nationally for their valuable initiatives.

Children's hospital Schömberg

Despite all the uncertainties, Uniserv can also look forward to a successful financial year in 2023. As in previous years, Uniserv's management is therefore once again supporting various regional and national institutions in their initiatives and projects.

As a specialist neurological hospital, the Schömberg Children's Clinic treats infants, children, adolescents and young adults with a wide range of neurological problems. Thanks to the personal connection, the extraordinary work of this facility is known at first hand. This year, the Uniserv donation will help to ensure that the music therapist can be employed for a further two years. Music therapy helps patients to take time out from their stressful everyday hospital lives. They gain new strength, which has a positive effect on the course of treatment.

Sperlingshof in Remchingen

Uniserv has had a friendly relationship with Sperlingshof in Remchingen for a long time. The curative education center for children and young people offers 50 children and young people help and support on their way to an independent and self-determined life. The donation will enable the continuation of trauma therapy at Sperlingshof. In addition, the donations in kind from the Uniserv IT equipment are always put to good use.

Children and young people have a right to protection from physical, sexualized and psychological violence. Unfortunately, their boundaries are very often violated. The victims suffer the consequences for the rest of their lives. Protecting children and young people is therefore a matter close to my heart.

Prevention at elementary school

A remarkable project that Uniserv has also supported for many years is the Aktionkinderschutz e.V. book project. The association's work focuses on prevention in elementary school, against abuse and violence, for the education and strengthening of children as the weakest members of society. Children are usually defenceless and helpless in the face of sexualized violence in particular. The aim is to give children the best possible basis for self-protection and development.

Moor protection by NABU

The tasks and challenges in climate and species protection are greater than ever. Climate change is in full swing, as we have seen this year, particularly in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events worldwide. Nature and the environment are the basis of our existence. Peatlands in particular are habitats for many animal and plant species. They serve as carbon reservoirs within terrestrial ecosystems. Peat extraction, drainage and long periods of drought as well as global warming are reducing these areas. This has dramatic consequences for flora, fauna and the climate, for example through the release of large quantities of climate-damaging gases. The renewed donation to NABU's moorland protection project is deliberately setting an example.

Peatlands bind enormous amounts of CO2. However, drained moors in Germany emit more CO2 than the entire German air traffic. With every bog that disappears, a piece of habitat also disappears. In this respect, I see moorland protection as a valuable project for the future.
